NUTRITION APPS FEEL LIKE A CHORE

The nutrition tracking and self improvement space is lacking curated solutions that foster a positive experience. We all know someone or have ourselves started a nutrition tracking program that has failed. MVC wanted to do something different.

MVC Nutrition is based on a real life brand. Maddie VanCurren is a registered dietitian who's belief's align with the purpose of this app. Maddie was consulted for the integrity of this app as a nutrition tool.

OUR USER'S FEEL FRUSTRATED USING TRADITIONAL DIETING APPS

This is not for those wanting a bandaid quick fix. Our users feel frustrated and discouraged using traditional dieting apps. We are changing the experience for those trying to plug their needs into an algorithm fit for everybody. Our goal was to make an app user’s didn’t stress opening up.

"Our goal was to make an app user's did not stress about opening up."

CREATING A POSITIVE, GAME LIKE, EXPERIENCE

Clients can work closely with their nutritions to create a plan curated to them, and our app makes it easy adapted into their lifestyle with a game-like experience.

Feature Highlight

CUSTOMIZE MEALS

I used apps like Duolingo as reference to understand how we could create a fun “game-like” experience for our users.

On each recipe, the user has access to extras the influence the rating of the recipe. This gives the user the ability to control their recipe and motivates them to have nutrient dense meals. This solution was designed with our user persona, Rachel, in mind. Making it easy to have an app that fits into her life and not the other way around.

User's can adjust each meal to fit their needs.

Feature Highlight

INTUITIVE TRACKING

I wanted to make this app fit easily into your day and do the hard work for you. The app automatically adjusts to different meal plans based on the time of day.

One big obstacle was making it less work for the user. We didn’t want them to spend lots of time inputing their meals. Instead we came up with a simply “add” options and their job is done.

USER REVIEWS

Based on prototype testing.

Ellie M.

“I would definitely use this app and wish the concept was real. As a fitness instructor, I love the idea that the meal plan is curated by the nutritionist but is fun for the user to use.”

Madison W.

“My favorite part of app is the daily review. Sometimes I write things on a list just so I can cross it off later so I love the recognition of it. I would be trying to get those streaks for sure.”

Olivia A.

“I love the design and feel of this app. It doesn’t seem like any other nutrition app I have used before. I think it would be easy to incorporate and i like the little notes that pop-up.”

UI KIT

CREATING A VISUAL IDENTITY

I did not want this nutrition app to have a look and feel like others. My goal was to create a playful and inviting UI experience for the users. I did this through my colors, illustrations, and playful copy moments throughout.

A NOTE FROM THE DESIGNER

WHAT I LEARNED
FROM MVC NUTRITION

I had so much fun doing the branding for this project! After researching plenty of other nutrition apps I wanted the MVC app to have a fresh feel. As mentioned in the case study, I wanted to incorporate a game-like experience for the user. I pushed myself in a visual direction that is outside of my comfort zone, and had a lot of fun playing with colors and illustrations.
