HARBORSIDE COFFEE AND GOODS
Harborside has been fueling Kodiak for over 25 years. The owners, Sam and Doreece Mutch have been local residents their entire ownership. There are three locations with the focus of our project being solutions for their newest drive-through, Wheel Watch.
Doreece has always seen the coffee shops as a way to give back to the community. Through sponsoring local clubs and the Angel Brew blend, Harborside prioritizes community involvement.
The Challenge
LONG WAIT TIMES AT WHEEL WATCH
Harborside has three locations with the newest, Wheel Watch, featuring a drive-through and food service. This location will be the focus as we add a feature for customers that will improve their experience.
Longer wait times at Wheel Watch are leading to more customer turnover, resulting in customers seeking out other coffee shops.
LONGER WAIT TIMES ARE LEADING TO CUSTOMER TURNOVER
Longer wait times at Wheel Watch are leading to more customer turnover, resulting in customers seeking out other coffee shops.
We need to:
-
Reduce or remove wait times
-
Set expectations and ensure delivery
-
Maintain customer loyalty

MAPPING OUT THE EXPERIENCE
I worked to create an efficient app flow. My goal was to quickly connect customers to their desired products.
BRINGING A
PRODUCT TO LIFE
Starting with wireframes to understand the user experience.
FEATURE HIGHLIGHT
INTUITIVE SUGGESTIONS
To increase efficiency for our customers, the app will track user patterns to make suggestions. The home screen will feature the daily lunch option and previous orders for quick reorders. This will make it easy for the users to navigate the app.
PROTOTYPE
STEP INTO THE SHOES OF HARBORSIDE'S CUSTOMER
Imagine you have a 30 minute lunch break and are craving a quick coffee and snack. Instead of being worried about making it back to work late, you can preorder, explore the daily lunch option, and arrive at the perfect time to find your order waiting for you.
A NOTE FROM THE DESIGNER
WHAT I LEARNED
FROM HARBORSIDE COFFEE
My designs for Harborside was practice in the art less is more. I had to stay focused on my primary goal, customer preordering to reduce wait times. Not only did I want my users to find the app aesthetic, but I wanted it to be efficient. I learned how to balance usability and customer satisfaction with visuals.
